The Austrians are a car – loving nation and as a result to that Austria shaped an admirable road network. On the other hand, most of the major cities experience a severe parking availability problem. The spaces are limited and also very expensive. If you do manage to find a space, the parking time allowed is usually around 90 minutes in central districts. 
While in Austria, if you decide to drive your own car you will need to purchase a Vignette which is a form of tax, so you can be allowed to drive on Austria's motorways. You can purchase them at gas stations, border crossings etc.
You will also require to carry safety warning equipment, a reflective warning triangle to place on the road in the event of an accident or car problem, a first aid kit and a reflective vest. You will be more likely to be charged with a fine if you fail to carry these items in your car.
